It’s hot, hot HOT!!
I have no idea where spring went! It’s soooo freaking hot! I know I’m from Florida but cmon on, in Florida you go from one centrally air-conditioned building to another and you never walk anywhere. Just go in and out of your car with the ac on full blast. The heat up here is so much worse than Florida.
Right now we live on the 5th floor of a pre-war walkup with no central ac, just window units. If you are directly in front of the window unit it feels nice and cool but the moment you step a foot away from the blower radius it feel like you have crossed over into the Caribbean. Also, if you’ve been sitting or laying down for a while and you stand up you can feel a significant temperature difference. Folks heat really does rise!
I don’t mean to sound like such a whiny brat. I think the heat is bringing the worst out of me. All sense of patience and kindness leave my mind and body the moment I experience 95-plus degree weather. Or maybe I really am a cranky, mean person and the heat brings out my true character.
What’s the temp like in your neck of the woods? Hopefully cooler than NYC.

Nope, we’re being boiled alive down here in DC. The weather man says that it’s not supposed to last too much longer, luckily.
At least you don’t have to put a suit and tie on to work.
yeah…that’s a tough situation…just stay cool and drink lots of fluids…
i went to nyc yesterday and walked ALL day long with Tony (remember the guy that came to your wedding but not really to the wedding?)…my clothes were drenched in sweat!!! ewwwwww nasty. it is so freaking humid…like FLORIDA~!! agh.
I’m in NYC, huddled by the AC.
I gotta say that even though 95 feels super hot, it’s still a hell of a lot better than 95 in the Midwest with humidity.
Guess I should count my blessings, but we’re not really used to mid-80s in Michigan. It’s been unusually humid here, too. If you can put in another window AC, it would help cool your apartment and take the strain off the other unit. A really small one should do the trick – it worked for us upstairs. Made a huge difference.
We’re seeing lots of uncomfortable temperatures. It’s not so bad if you have no AC access whatsoever. Sadly, we have AC at work, so I get all comfy and soft in the office, and melt at home.
Down-home ways to beat the heat.
1) Drink lots of water, sun tea, and lemonade – avoid soda.
2) Change sheets more often than in winter. Crisp sheets feel cooler.
3) Five or ten minutes before I climb into bed, I sprinkle water (think high-church baptismal style) on the mattress. The water evaporate s and cools the sheets before we get in.
4) Take some old clean long socks with no holes. Fill with uncooked rice or dry beans. Tie off the ends and freeze. When we need some fast cooling, grab it from the freezer and drape it over our necks.
5) We keep a glass of water by our bed to sip on in the night.
6) At night, I notice the fans make my skin itch because the moving air is catching on the hairs on my neck, tummy, back, legs, arms . . . I fixed this by wearing cool polyester pajamas and skip the blanket and top sheet.
Other ideas?
It’s boiling here in Cincinnati.
Plus, we’re having our 17-year-cicada epidemic. It’s pretty scary. I can’t go outside between the heat and the cicadas.
It is still raining and cool here… the highest we have gone is 80… I want some sun… For now I will try and appreciate the rain, but its really hard.

Ya gotta close those blinds on your windows. It will help keep the cool air in, the sun’s rays are making the rest of that place hotter than it should be.
Also, constantly drink water so that you don’t dehydrate! You can do this! 
I’m enjoying the heat here in Jersey. It makes it feel more like home.
It’s CRAZY hot here. 95+ in philly too. It’s almost unbearable.
Oh yeah, I forgot my dad’s favorite trick.
Run cold water over the underside of your wrists for several minutes. Because the blood vessels are close to the skin there, the cold water will cool the blood, and then the cooled blood will circulate throughout the entire body.

@eugenia - The rice-in-sock works great in the winter too as a mini-heater. Just microwave the sock for about 20-60 seconds, and then put it in your coat pocket, or line the bed with it under the covers. Toasty!

In Buffalo, it’s currently an average of mid 70s during the day and back down to the 60s at night. *phew*
I agree with you that it’s not as bad in Florida because there’s AC everywhere, only thing is my butt/thighs and back burning when I first get in the car whose seats are on fire. I feel like a piece of meat on a heated pan, I almost saw smoke coming out from under! =p

In my school, we have those elementary school chairs. I tried to turn around, and my legs stuck to the seat! And after school when I went to McDonald’s, I ordered chicken nuggets and a soda. I asked for honey to dip my nuggets in (honey, not honey mustard) and when I got home, the honey was all warm!!! It cooled off and was still good, but should honey get warm? And when it does, shouldn’t it turn to amber?

Perhaps your hotness is causing global warming, especially in the area of NY. Ever consider that?
New York summers (and winters) are rough because of the whole walking thing. And the subway platforms during the summer? Yuck! It’s hotter there than it is outside!
Today, just in time for the hottest day of this heat wave, I got a window AC unit (I also live in an old 4-story walk-up and went through last summer without AC altogether). My room is small so it’s ok. Not ideal, but it’s definitely an improvement. I’m so happy. Unfortunately, my roommate is a psychotic outdoor nut who is very anti-AC and she is now not speaking to me… Oh well. I’m hiding out in my comfy ACed bedroom anyway.
Oh man, it took my AC like 3 hours to get the place semi-cool tonight. Stupid heatwave.
After my two visits with you on the camera, I decided I had better wander over and took a look at your Xanga. I have a question. What happened to May?
Hope it’s more temperate for you today. Yesterday Toledo was very nice. Today, not so much.
It was storming for a week here, so we canceled our trip to Six Flags. And the next day it was gorgeous. In the 70s with sunshine and a breeze. Today it’s much the same. Wonderful.
eugenia- I disagree. You are NOT a mean, cranky person. Its just the weather. Speaking of weather, WHAT HAPPENED TO SPRING?!?!? SUMMER HASN’T EVEN STARTED YET!!!! I shudder to think of what the summer weather will feel like
we had a really hot weekend (Sweden, Europe), but now it’s cooler which is nice
We had fairly warm whether in UK on Monday and Tuesday, today has been much cooler where I live.
Eugenia, after all the time’s I have emailed you with my questions. I have not once seen your angry side so it has to be the heat getting to your head. I have heard alot of people that got sent to the looney bin because of extremely hot heat so watch out!
But really I have heard that NY and the other states near NY have been having big heat boosts. I heard you guys been having some good heat for the past couple of days here. We have been getting no more than 90 degree weather currently and I burn up being outside just for 10 mintues. So I really am proud of you guys who can stand and just have to deal with the weather higher than 90 and some 100! I hope we don’t get stuck with too many of those days. One thing I feel bad for you guys is that it isn’t even *officially* summer yet. Not until Saturday if I am correct.
Ugh I totally second this post.. and just think.. in a few weeks, it’ll be hot AND sticky…

I’m from Phoenix so when it’s boiling hot, it’s near 120 degrees, though as Phoenicians are so fond of saying, “it’s a dry heat!”
We have had some 90 degree days and a couple of 100 degree this summer with 36% humidity, pretty hot. Now a tech question. I have emailed and emailed Xanga with no answer. I have no footprints have not had them in two months. Why do I not have footprints? Why did Xanga abandon the idea of buying lifetime with eprops? Or did they? I have been saving and saving them for lifetime now find that they do not offer that anymore so I have been told. Several people told me to come here and ask. I left messages on John’s site he did not answer either. Judi

Oh my goodness….it’s HOT HOT HOT over here too. I’m in the San Francisco Bay Area, but closer inland so it’s much warmer. I’m not sure I can take much more of this. We only have ceiling fans, no AC, so I’m dying. I’ve been to Arizona in the summer before, and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to live in a place like that. I think it was about mid-high 80s last night, but finally cooled down after we went to bed.
It’s kinda chilly here…
It was pretty hot in SoCal this summer, but not as hot as some years.

my ac isn’t working down here in South Florida where like Lewis Black says, you need antiperspirant for your balls!…just a stroke of luck that the temperature dipped just as the darned thing went out…nice to have all windows open…
I know, it’s a few months past, but I was reading this and thought “Hmm….I wonder if she’s ever experienced a Wisconsin summer?” I love by Lake Michigan so of course it’s ten degrees cooler than the inner parts of Kenosha, but then again it’s usually 10 to 20 degrees hotter as you hit the county. Anywho, on an average summer day the temperature is around 95 degrees all day long. And it’s not just the heat, we have high hummidity so it’s like walking from an ice box into a sauna. EEP! Thank God for central air!!!!!!
